Methodist reproductive health specialist weighs in after IVF bill fails in U.S. Senate

Published: Sept. 18, 2024

A bill to protect in vitro fertilization access across the country failed in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday. Needing 60 votes, it received 51.

Democrats tried to pass the bill earlier this summer but tried again after Donald Trump vocalized support for IVF about a week ago.

KETV spoke with Methodist reproductive endocrinologist Carolyn Maud Doherty, MD, and others after the bill failed Tuesday.

"For a fair number of people who get to our office, that (IVF) is their only solution," Dr. Doherty said.
