Patients with rectal cancer in Nebraska and western Iowa now have access to Nebraska’s first nationally accredited rectal cancer program.
Methodist Physicians Clinic Colon and Rectal Surgery, in partnership with Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center and Methodist Hospital, has earned accreditation under the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), becoming the first program in Nebraska to receive the designation.
“I’m very excited for Methodist and for our patients to have achieved accreditation as a nationally recognized center of excellence for the treatment of rectal cancer,” said Charles Ternent, MD, a Methodist Physicians Clinic colon and rectal surgeon and program director for NAPRC at Methodist Hospital. “NAPRC accreditation combines the expertise of surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, medical oncologists and pathologists with rigorous evidence-based protocols and quality improvement programs to optimize the management of rectal cancer patients. We are very proud to be able to bring this elite level of accreditation to our patients and community.”
This certification reflects Methodist's commitment to deliver the highest standard of rectal cancer care and provide patients with access to leading-edge treatments close to home. Through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach, patients receive individualized treatment plans that are designed to increase survival rates and improve quality of life while preserving function whenever possible.
As Nebraska's leader in colon and rectal surgery, Methodist combines specialized expertise with compassionate support to help patients navigate a complex diagnosis with confidence. From initial consultation through recovery and follow-up care, the team partners closely with patients and families to ensure care is tailored to each person's unique needs and goals.
