Over-the-counter birth control option hits stores in Omaha
Published: April 15, 2024The newest option for birth control is now on store shelves.
Opill is the first oral contraceptive pill that doesn’t require a prescription from a doctor. It’s available to buy at major pharmacies, Hy-Vee, and even Amazon.
“Many women can safely take this medication, and there’s many medications over the counter that have been over the counter a long time, like Tylenol and ibuprofen, that I would honestly say are even riskier than this medication.” said Dr. Tana Perry, OBGYN with Methodist Health System.
Opill is like any prescription oral birth control, coming in one-month and three-month supply packages. But this pill only contains one hormone: norgestrel, a form of progestin.
