Rizzo Brings Smile, Comfort to Chemo Patients at Jennie Edmundson

A local woman and her four-legged companion have found a way to give back to the community in a deeply meaningful way.

Fran Shorey, a retired teacher, received chemotherapy treatments over the course of a year at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

"I had my first episode back 34 years ago," she said. "And then, it came in the other breast in 2014, and then again in 2017. Not a reoccurrence anytime, but just a different spot."

"My friends and I have talked about, wow, wouldn't we have loved to have a dog there when we were sitting there getting our chemo," Shorey said.
