'The Story Is Not Over': Health Expert Says Booster Recommendation Could Change

The Biden administration expected to start delivering booster shots to the general population on Monday but federal medical advisors say 'not yet.'

A Food and Drug Administration Advisory Panel rejected the plan to make boosters widely available.

Instead, they recommended Friday to allocate boosters only to people 65 and older and those at high risk for COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control is set to weigh in on potential emergency authorization this week.

Here locally, in a statement to KETV from Methodist Health Systems, Infectious Disease Dr. Jessica Jones said the COVID-19 vaccine continues to serve as our strongest barrier against the virus.

And although most people hospitalized are unvaccinated, the delta variant has contributed to breakthrough infections.

"I am hopeful that a booster dose would further protect the health of those who've already been vaccinated as well as those around them, but we will continue to follow all CDC and FDA guidance as it pertains to vaccination."
