Sue Korth Makes Becker's Top 130 Women Leaders List

Published: Nov. 28, 2016

CHICAGO — Becker's Hospital Review has published the 2016 edition of its list of "130 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know" and Sue Korth, Methodist Women’s Hospital vice president and chief operating officer, was among those recognized.

Korth was one of three Nebraskans to make the list, with Jan Kleinhesselink of Lincoln and Kelly Driscoll of Norfolk also named. Among the others honored were female leaders from The Cleveland Clinic, Duke University, Kaiser Permanente, Johns Hopkins  and Cancer Treatment Centers of America, to name a few.

All recipients have demonstrated outstanding leadership and management throughout their careers, leading initiatives to improve their individual organizations' quality, operational and financial performance, as well as the well-being of the communities they serve.

“We couldn’t agree more with Becker’s decision to name Sue to the list of women leaders in the health care industry,” said Steve Goeser, president and CEO of Methodist Hospital. “From the construction and development of her team at Methodist Women’s Hospital, to establishing Methodist as the regional leader in births to the current $20 million expansion of the neonatal intensive care unit, Sue’s leadership has always been at the forefront and the reason for our tremendous success.”

Serving as vice president and chief operating officer of Methodist Women’s Hospital since 2007, Korth has guided the campus to quickly become the regional leader in births and women’s health. The Women’s Hospital is coming off its most successful year since opening in 2010, with 5,413 births in 2015.

As the top administrator for the 126-bed facility, Korth oversaw the construction, implementation of services and hiring of personnel during the three year construction process.

For those efforts Korth earned the 2010 Woman of Distinction Award presented by Midlands Business Journal (MBJ). The Woman of Distinction Award recognizes the exceptional contributions of one area businesswoman each year. In receiving the award, Korth described the foundation of her success as “the strong support provided by my family and my team at Methodist.”

Korth has over 30 years of clinical and medical management experience, including five years as a clinical supervisor in high-risk OB/GYN at Methodist Hospital.

Prior to joining Methodist, Korth worked in quality improvement for Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. She has previously worked within every health system in Omaha, and for Mutual of Omaha.

Korth earned her bachelor’s degree in health administration from the College of St. Francis and her bachelor’s in nursing from the College of St. Mary. She also has a master’s degree in public health administration from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate in health care administration from Pacific Western University.

Becker's Hospital Review has published a version of this list annually since 2009.

The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected leaders for inclusion based on editorial judgment and discretion. Nominations were considered when making selections for this list.
