Three Methodist hospitals were recently recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for quality stroke and cardiac care, earning high distinctions among a number of prestigious hospitals nationwide.

This year, Methodist Fremont Health and Methodist Jennie Edmundson received the following awards for ensuring that stroke patients receive the best, most appropriate research-based treatment:

Get With The Guidelines - Stroke

  • Methodist Fremont Health (Rural Bronze)
  • Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital (Gold Plus)

Jennie Edmundson also received a Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award, which signifies the most up-to-date, evidence-based care for patients with type 2 diabetes when hospitalized for a stroke.

“These recognitions certainly help illustrate our commitment to meeting high standards,” said Marcia Keith, Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital’s cardiovascular service leader. “But it’s our compassionate, individualized approach that has made us the trusted care destination for stroke patients across western Iowa.”

Additionally, Methodist Hospital, Methodist Fremont Health and Jennie Edmundson earned the following awards for offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing dangerous heart attacks and conditions.

  • Methodist Fremont Health (Rural STEMI Silver)
  • Methodist Hospital (STEMI Gold Plus and NSTEMI Bronze)
  • Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital (STEMI Gold Plus and NSTEMI Bronze)

Jennie Edmundson and Methodist Hospital also received a Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award for the care of type 2 diabetics when hospitalized for a heart attack.

“We’re honored to be recognized for the specialized care that we work tirelessly to provide,” said Carrie Phillips, Methodist Hospital’s cardiovascular service line executive. “But the greatest reward of all is providing our patients more sunrises, birthdays, major milestones and memories.”

Finally, Methodist Fremont Health earned the AHA Get With The Guidelines - Rural Coronary Artery Disease NSTE-ACS Gold recognition award for offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing non ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome. This, after earning a silver award in the same category last year. The hospital also recently received recertification of its cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

“It’s no secret that people living in rural communities face worse cardiovascular outcomes than those in larger cities,” said Brian Brodd, Methodist Fremont Health’s director of cardiopulmonary services. “But these recognitions illustrate Methodist Fremont Health’s commitment to providing quality, lifesaving care – no matter where our patients call home.”
