Respiratory Care Assistant
Methodist Hospital
Tell us about yourself and your role at Methodist.
As a respiratory therapy assistant, I’m responsible for oxygen tank rounds, equipment setup and AED checks, as well as making sure various supplies are stocked. My duties take me to Methodist Hospital, Methodist Women’s Hospital, West Dodge Medical Plaza and the 825 Building.
I was hired at age 19 and trained on the job as a respiratory tech. I was a Kronos timekeeper for many years, too.
I have two adult children, Elizabeth and Robb, who both volunteered at Methodist in high school. I’m also a grandmother to Clayton and Emily. My husband, Bob, and I will be celebrating 44 years of marriage in July.
I enjoy movies, music, entertainment and baking chocolate chip cookies.
Why Methodist? What attracted you to the organization?
I have family ties to Methodist. My parents, Tony and Betty Inserra, and my siblings, Laura and Steve, have all worked at Methodist. It’s a true family affair, and I keep the tradition going.
What is it about Methodist that keeps you coming back?
All employees in our health system matter, no matter what role or duty you are in and perform. It takes a big group of people to build a team, and everyone contributes to make our health system succeed.
I come to work each day with a mindset to be kind and cordial to all those I encounter in my day.
Is there anything that stands out from your time at Methodist?
My 50-year anniversary at Methodist was April 7. My supervisors helped me celebrate with a lunch and cake.
I feel grateful and blessed to have worked for Methodist for 50 years. Many smart and great people work here. And I’ve formed many friendships.
When I fought breast cancer in 2008, I had a bright medical team that cared for me. I felt confident with my exceptional medical team. I felt the “Methodist love.”
What should people know about Methodist?
Methodist is known for providing good patient care. It has a strong reputation in the community. Staff members are dedicated and compassionate. And I learn from others around me.
I refer many people to Methodist Health System for their care because I believe in the good work done here by all employees of this organization.
