Why work at Methodist? So many times you hear this question answered with, “Because of the people.” And I wholeheartedly agree. Working with like-minded people is crucial. However, I believe the decision to stay at any organization goes so much deeper. For me, I stay because Methodist’s core values align with my own, and it’s our value of respect that resonates most.

Methodist demonstrates time and time again that developing respectful relationships is at the core of what we do. Our patients feel this respect from our care teams, and we know this to be true because of our consistently high patient satisfaction scores. Our people readily give this respect to our patients because they feel it readily given to them. Not only do we have some of the highest patient satisfaction scores in the country, but we also have some of the highest employee and physician engagement scores. This organization is guided by physicians who feel Methodist is the best place to practice medicine, and they are actively engaged in its growth and governance.  

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the respect Methodist gives to the communities we serve.  Methodist’s philosophy is to meet communities where they are. Not to show up and say, “This is how it will be done,” but rather, “What do you need us to do? How can we help?”

There are many different health care models, and every single health care system – whether it’s not-for-profit, for-profit, academic or community-based – is in the business of taking good care of people at their most vulnerable moments. But how an organization does that is the differentiating factor. How the values align with yours and your core purpose is what’s most important. For me, Methodist’s “how” makes my work meaningful, and that is why I stay.
