Wound care can be limb-saving

Published: Nov. 21, 2024

When Leigh, Nebraska native Lyle Cattau was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1995 at the age of 34, it didn’t really disrupt his life very much. His doctors gave him exercises to do and medication to take — not insulin — and he did. He changed his diet, stopped drinking sugary sodas and continued driving freight to and from Texas.

In 2013, however, during a run to Houston, Cattau, noticed a sore on the bottom of his left foot that wouldn’t heal.
