Official Title
Testing Whether the Of Brain Scans Alone Instead Of Brain Scans Plus Preventive Brain Radiation Affects Lifespan in Patients with Small Cell Lung Cancer
Study Purpose
To see if the use of brain scans alone instead of brain scans plus preventive brain radiation affect the lifespan of patients with small cell lung cancer.
Diagnosis
Patient has small cell lung cancer.Eligibility
Small Cell Lung Cancer (limited or extensive stage).
Prior chemotherapy/radiation must have been completed.
No prior radiotherapy to the brain.
Patients must sign an approved informed consent and authorization permitting release of personal health information.
Intervention
This study has two study groups.
- Group 1: Patients will receive the usual approach of PCI (Prophylactic Cranial Irradiation) plus MRI brain surveillance.
- Group 2: Patients will have brain surveillance MRI’s only.
