Methodist President and CEO Joins Over 2,000 Leaders in Commitment To Advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Published: May 12, 2022

Methodist Health System is proud to have joined a growing coalition pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Methodist President and CEO Steve Goeser is one of over 2,000 CEOs who have come together for CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™. With this commitment, Methodist is one of 13 companies in Nebraska that have pledged to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected, and where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion.

Participants have already shared more than 1,400 best known actions, exchanging tangible learning opportunities and creating collaborative conversations via the initiative’s unified hub, CEOAction.com.

“Diversity and inclusion can be difficult issues to navigate, but if we avoid constructive conversation about these topics, communication deteriorates and productivity suffers,” Goeser said. “I’m proud that Methodist is committing to cultivating a work environment where employees can openly address challenges, present opportunities and share perspectives.”

Organizations taking the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge are moving toward effecting positive change. A diverse and inclusive workforce not only facilitates community but also drives innovation and creativity. A study found that 85% of those surveyed reported that diversity is a key component to fostering innovation.

The pledge builds on Methodist’s commitment to employee diversity, inclusion and development.

Led by Paula Pittman, vice president of human resources, along with the culture and inclusion team, Methodist has conducted a diversity, equity and inclusion survey of employees, which in turn led to Inclusive Communities ACTion workshops and the formation of employee resource groups. Additionally, the Methodist Emerging Professionals leadership development group is available to all employees. Other ongoing efforts include lunch and learn sessions, leadership training and mentoring programs.
