Celebrating Breastfeeding
Every year, from August 1 - 7, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action coordinates with health organizations around the globe to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and promote the myriad of benefits breastfeeding provides moms, babies and society.
As part of the celebration, Methodist is hosting an informational event on Aug. 7, 2018, at the Omaha Children's Museum.
Resources Available to You
At Methodist, whether in the hospital or before and after you deliver, we are committed to ensuring that you have the resources you need to feed your baby successfully and see that she is receiving the proper nutrition.
When quality breast milk is available, it is the best choice for you and your growing baby’s health. In fact, exclusive breastfeeding — with no supplemental food or liquids — is recommended for the first 6 months of baby’s life to promote a healthy weight throughout life, support brain development and overall health. But despite the potential health benefits, breastfeeding doesn’t always come easily or naturally.
Lactation Experts
We have IBCLC-certified lactation consultants available to you in the hospital shortly after delivery and throughout your stay to help make you comfortable with the breastfeeding process, assist with latch and ensure your baby is getting enough milk. And, if you are unable to breastfeed, we can help determine if a donor milk is an option for you.
Support When You Need It
Once you and baby go home, we can also address simple feeding issues via phone or email. If you encounter more complicated problems, the APRNs at Methodist Physicians Clinic Women's Center can help address them with same-day appointments.
In addition to one-on-one assistance, we offer free support groups and classes at Methodist Women’s Hospital and Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
World Breastfeeding Week Celebration
In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, we will be offering a free one hour lunch and learn session to help working moms navigate breastfeeding and pumping in the workplace.
Register to join the discussion at the Omaha Children’s Museum on Tuesday, August 7 at 11:30 a.m. for breastfeeding tips, encouragement and resources, including more information about the assistance and supplies that are available on-site at the Breastfeeding Boutique at Methodist Women’s Hospital, regardless of where you delivered your baby.
