Darren Flores, PLMHP, PCMSW, believes that the most rewarding parts of being a counselor are helping someone who’s struggling and watching their growth over time.

His interest in mental health began in college and peaked when he became a school social worker and witnessed students experiencing behavioral or mental health challenges.

Flores, now with the Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program, especially enjoys working with young people and believes that building a strong rapport is critical to a successful client-counselor relationship. He feels fortunate to work for Methodist.

“It’s amazing to work for a place that provides comprehensive care for all types of individuals, regardless of economic standing,” he said.

Flores, one of seven children, is a self-proclaimed loud talker who can “enjoy a bit of chaos.” Outside of work, he enjoys cooking out with his large family and watching sports – especially football, baseball and basketball.
