Dr. Amber Cohn Joins the Fremont Women's Health Team
Published: Jan. 4, 2023Thanks to her grandmother’s compelling stories about life as an operating room nurse, Amber Cohn, MD, was inspired to pursue a career in medicine. But it wasn’t until medical school, at Oregon Health & Science University, that she discovered her passion for obstetrics and gynecology.
“It was during my first rotation that I experienced my very first delivery,” Dr. Cohn said. “A year later, I was in downtown Portland, and this family came up to me with this little 1-year-old. And they said, ‘Oh, Dr. Cohn, you delivered our baby!’ It was an amazing connection to have with that family – just to be part of their life like that.”
Although she enjoys helping women navigate pregnancy and beyond, she’s most fulfilled by simply connecting with her patients – no matter the season of life they’re in.
“Even starting in the adolescent years, we can start answering questions on different things they’re going through,” said Dr. Cohn, an OB/GYN at Methodist Physicians Clinic. “And then, of course, through pregnancy and later on past menopause.”
As a Methodist patient and provider, she’s continually impressed by the level of expertise and compassion she witnesses throughout the health system. It’s humbling, she said, to play a role providing in The Meaning of Care.
“It’s my role as a physician to make sure I’m up to date on the newest guidelines for medicine,” she said. “But it’s just as important that I take the time out of my day to appreciate what each patient’s going through. Just to be able to step back and take a minute and see what the patient really needs from me.”
In her free time, Dr. Cohn enjoys traveling with her family. They especially like excursions that include sailing.
