Dr. Anna Cheek joins Methodist pulmonology and critical care teams
Published: Sept. 9, 2026Growing up in a large family, Anna Cheek, MD, quickly learned the importance of having someone to lean on.
“We were there for each other in good times and in bad,” the Methodist Physicians Clinic doctor said. “I found that same sense of community, support and belonging in medicine – no matter the circumstances.”
Dr. Cheek specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine, seeing patients in clinic and hospital settings. She’s particularly interested in caring for patients with COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis and sleep medicine needs.
“The most rewarding part of my work is guiding patients through moments of uncertainty,” she said. “When a patient is critically ill or struggling with lung disease, there’s immense stress. Being a clinician who takes the time to explain what’s happening, answer questions directly and truthfully, and offer a steady hand during their hardest days is deeply fulfilling.”
For Dr. Cheek, showing patients The Meaning of Care means taking a holistic approach to medicine.
“To me, it means showing up fully – not just as a medical expert, but as a compassionate human being,” she said. “In medicine, it’s easy to focus solely on the monitors and lab values, but true care means remembering to care for the whole person – making sure my patients feel heard, supported and actively involved in their care.”
Outside of work, Dr. Cheek enjoys staying active, recharging with family and friends, and riding horses. She believes that keeping a healthy work-life balance gives her the energy and focus to give patients her best every day.
