Dr. Klug Now Seeing Patients at HealthWest Clinic
Published: July 31, 2019OMAHA – Dr. Michael Klug had a unique path to practicing internal medicine.
After earning a Doctor of Pharmacy from Creighton University, he worked as a pharmacist for four years before shifting gears.
“I just wanted a little bit more comprehensive involvement with the patient,” said Dr. Klug, who has joined the staff at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest. “That involved getting to know more about them and their problems, and being able to devise treatment plans to help them out.”
After returning to school, he earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed an internal medicine residency at Creighton.
Dr. Klug believes his background as a pharmacist will be an asset as he cares for his patients.
“Looking over a medication list gives me really good insight as to what’s going on with the patient,” he said. “And being able to counsel on certain medications – I know the ins and outs of them from earlier in my career.”
But really getting to know his patients, he said, is just as important for their care.
“We’re not just treating that single ailment or the single disease,” Dr. Klug said. “We’re involving the patient as a whole. Whether that’s other physical conditions they have, their mental health or their spiritual health, we’re taking all that into consideration. I think The Meaning of Care is involving all those aspects and putting together a treatment plan for them.”
He added: “I want them to know that I’m there to listen. I’m there to hear what their biggest concerns are.”
Dr. Klug is now seeing patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest (16120 W. Dodge Road). Appointments can be made by calling (402) 354-0550.
