OMAHA  - For her, it’s all about the relationships.

It’s something Dr. Melissa Hernandez brings to the internal medicine physician group at Methodist Physicians Clinic Regency.

The Wayne State College graduate and later University of Nebraska Medical Center for medical school and her residency, is now seeing patients and looks forward to those relationship-building opportunities.

“Even if it’s a 10-minute office visit where I just make a little connection, or the long-term patients who I get to know and develop those relationships over time,” Dr. Hernandez said. “Relationships with people are definitely one of my favorite aspects of medicine.”

While at Wayne, Dr. Hernandez was part of the Rural Health Opportunities Program, a highly competitive program for high school students who want to practice primary care in underserved Nebraska.

During her educational training at UNMC, she was a mentor for the UNMC High School Alliance Program, volunteered with the Douglas County Corrections Facility STD testing initiative and was a student volunteer at the Sharing Clinic.

Internal medicine was her specialty of choice during her medical training.

“When I was in residency I really loved every specialty,” Dr. Hernandez said. “With each one - cardiology, endocrinology, and rheumatology - I felt like I could really see myself doing each one. General internal medicine seemed like the best way for me to take care of the whole person and incorporate each of those into my medical practice.”

Dr. Hernandez is now seeing patients at the Methodist Physicians Clinic Regency location, 10060 Regency Circle. Appointments can be made by calling 402-354-1580.
