Free PVD Screening at Jennie Edmundson April 27
Published: April 24, 2017Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital will hold its annual free PVD screening on Thursday, April 27, 5-7 p.m. The screening will take place in the Outpatient Surgery area, located near the east entrance of the hospital on the first floor.
PVD stands for peripheral vascular disease, a disease of the blood vessels outside of the heart. One in every 20 Americans over the age of 50 has PVD, a condition that raises the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Other factors that increase a person’s risk include smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a history of vascular disease, heart attack or stroke.
The PVD screening is simple and non-invasive. Medical staff will be on hand to perform the screen, answer questions, provide educational materials and discuss outcomes of the procedure.
