Greater Omaha Chamber Honors Methodist With Business Excellence Award
Published: April 12, 2021Methodist Health System is proud to have been honored with a 2021 Greater Omaha Chamber Business Excellence Award for contributions that elevate our community and make it a better place for everyone to do business, work and live.
This year’s 25 Business Excellence Award winners share a common theme: the refusal to give in to COVID-19. Instead, they relied on their innovation, leadership and philanthropy to serve our community like never before.
Honorees in four categories – Leadership, Innovation, Philanthropy and Sustained Excellence – were selected by a leadership committee composed of regional organizations and the Greater Omaha Chamber. More than 70 companies were nominated.
"Businesses are vital to thriving communities – catalyzing innovation, creating jobs and building connections," said David G. Brown, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber. "We like to say, 'Excellence is earned, not given,' and that’s true of the 25 organizations we honor today. These organizations are beyond excellent. They are exceptional."
Methodist was honored in the Innovation category. The chamber noted: "Methodist Health System and the 2020 pandemic will forever be linked in Nebraska – it was Methodist that diagnosed the first COVID-19 patient. But as the pandemic raged on and personal protection equipment fell into critically low supply early in the year, Methodist OB/GYN Tifany Somer-Shely gave new meaning to the word 'innovation.' She designed, fabricated and produced isolation gowns using nontraditional materials, as well as clear face masks that allowed for lip reading by patients who were hearing impaired."
