HealthWest Internal Medicine Group Welcomes Dr. Hays

OMAHA  -  Seeing the love his grandfather had for the medical profession made it pretty easy for Dr. Bret Hays to determine his career path.

A native of Alma, Neb., Dr. Hays returns to the Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest medical group where he interned, a clinic where team medicine and a family atmosphere are always present.

“I came back to Methodist because of the people,” Dr. Hays said of his return to Nebraska. “I was fortunate to have an inside view as an intern with the group I’m now joining. They truly enjoy what they do. It’s a family. Everyone has the same goal – to help people – and they get joy out of that. Everyone is on the same team and that’s was a real draw.”

After graduating from Alma High School, Dr. Hays earned his undergraduate degree at Doane College (Crete, Neb.). Next stop was the University of Nebraska Medical Center for his medical degree, internship and residency.

He left his home state, briefly, and took his internal medicine talents to Salem, Oregon in Sept. of 2015.

“There is a lot I enjoy about being physician,” Dr. Hays said. “What I enjoy most, what drew me to medicine, was developing relationships with people. That’s what’s most important. It’s what gets me out of bed every day and what makes it sometimes hard to leave at the end of the day.”

Although his grandfather has since retired from the profession, he has always been a guiding force for Dr. Hays.

“My grandfather was a mentor and still is,” he said. “I saw the passion he carried with him every day until his retirement. He still reads medical journals and wants to talk about latest developments in health care. Listening to his stories is something that I have always coveted.”

Dr. Hays is now seeing patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest, 16120 W. Dodge Frontage Road. Appointments can be made by calling 402-354-0550.
