HealthWest Internal Medicine Welcomes Dr. Lauren Nelson

(OMAHA) – A two time winner of the Geriatric Resident of the Year award, earning the honor in 2010 and 2013, Dr. Lauren Nelson has begun seeing patients at the Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest location. Dr. Nelson joins the well-established team of internal medicine providers.

Her educational journey began at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. She then earned her bachelor of science in biology at the University of New Orleans, followed by additional training at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Nelson completed her medical degree at the Feinberg School of Medicine – Northwestern University in Chicago.

Omaha became her next destination, with her internal medicine residency work being done at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

During her medical training she was actively engaged in various research projects, one of which focused on palliative and end of life care, the other on patient safety. She was also involved in two years of research on diabetes care and working with patients in group and individual medical visits.

The mother of three and certified yoga instructor is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.
