Methodist Pediatrician Says Her COVID-19 Vaccination Helped Keep Newborn Safe From COVID-Positive Sister
Published: Sept. 16, 2021A Methodist Health System pediatrician encourages pregnant women to get the COVID-19 vaccine after her maternal vaccination protected her newborn son at home.
The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology reports that vaccine-generated antibodies are present in umbilical cord blood and breastmilk after maternal vaccination.
"It's 100% safe to get vaccinated," Natalie Fleming, MD, said. "It's now recommended. Your OB/GYN will recommend it, your pediatrician will recommend it, and we're going through it ourselves. We're doing it ourselves."
Dr. Fleming has personal experience to back up that recommendation.
