Methodist team is 1st in area to perform repair with Abbott TriClip G5 transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) system

Congratulations to interventional and structural cardiologist Dr. Jai Parekh and team for being the first in Nebraska and Iowa to successfully repair a patient’s leaky tricuspid valve with the minimally invasive, latest-generation Abbott TriClip G5 transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) system. The team performed the procedure on Aug. 14 at Methodist Hospital.
Here's why it matters:
When left untreated, a leaky tricuspid valve or tricuspid regurgitation (TR) may progress into atrial fibrillation, heart failure and even death. Traditionally, the only treatment options for TR have been medical therapy and open-heart surgery (which is rarely performed due to the complexity of the procedure and high risks involved).
