Methodist Women's Hospital Perinatal Center Welcomes Dr. Emily Patel

Published: Aug. 9, 2016

Helping get a mom, baby and family through a difficult pregnancy with a healthy outcome was one of many reasons Emily Patel, MD, became a maternal-fetal medicine specialist.

After living the past several years in Durham, N.C., where she completed her maternal-fetal medicine fellowship, Dr. Patel will now call Omaha and the Methodist Women’s Hospital Perinatal Center home. Dr. Patel joins the largest group of maternal-fetal medicine physicians in the region.

“The thing I love most about medicine is the patient interaction.” Dr. Patel said. “I learn something new every day from them. It’s a collaboration and I get excited about that. It’s something new and different with each patient, everyday.”

Dr. Patel attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she studied abroad for one year, before graduating with honors. The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UMNC) provided her medical training, as well a stint at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa.

Her residency training, in obstetrics and gynecology, was completed at UNMC in Omaha.

While at Duke the board-certified OB/GYN served as an assistant professor and assistant director to labor and delivery.

At Methodist she is looking forward to being a part of a team of medical providers who offer outstanding care to patients.

“As a sub-specialist, I can’t take care of people all alone,” Dr. Patel said. “I need a team of people. Methodist has that. It’s a huge umbrella - all the specialists are there. I know I always have people to collaborate with when caring for these high-risk pregnancies.”

The Methodist Women’s Hospital Perinatal Center is located on the second floor of the 717 Medical Office Building, adjacent to Methodist Women’s Hospital at 192nd & West Dodge Road.
