Published: April 20, 2015

Omaha - Healthcare professionals, workplace wellness coordinators and human resources representatives throughout the Midwest are invited to the Pathways to Wellbeing Symposium and Excellence in Worksite Wellness Awards Luncheon to be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in La Vista on April 30.

Sponsored by WELLCOM and Nebraska Methodist College, this one-day event aims to provide actionable information to persons responsible for implementing and/or promoting wellness programs in the workplace.  Over the course of the day and through a number of tracks geared toward different types of wellness professionals, attendees will gain insights that will allow them to more easily implement a successful wellness program in their organizations. Register here to attend.

“The rate at which workplace wellness has expanded as an industry in recent years is truly astonishing, and it will only continue to grow in importance,” said Kara Meisinger, MPH, MCHES, and Director of Health Promotion Management at Nebraska Methodist College.  “As the healthcare community moves more and more toward a preventative methodology in which funding is tied to successful patient outcomes and low re-admittance rates, wellness and health promotion will become a fundamental aspect of our daily lives.”

“A transformation is certainly underway in the private sector,” said Beth Pirnie, M.S., CHES, Vice President of WELLCOM.   “As employers analyze their bottom lines, they’re seeing the detrimental impact of a lack of positive health reinforcement.  Lost productivity in terms of absenteeism, as well as presenteeism, really does add up.

“Organizations that have been willing to explore their workplace health promotion options have witnessed firsthand the positive financial effect of a healthy workforce, and it is imperative that they continue to strategically expand their efforts in the coming years.”

The Pathways to Wellbeing Symposium recognizes the burgeoning nature of the wellness industry and will assist those individuals who are dedicated to integrating health promotion into every aspect of a business, community, or healthcare organization.

This year’s speakers will address topics centered on various aspects of health.  NMC and WELLCOM are pleased to announce this year’s lineup:

  • Symposium Morning Keynote Speaker:  Dr. Edward Creagan of the Mayo Clinic, “Live Long Enough to Cash In Your 401(k)”
  • Luncheon Keynote Speaker:  Sean Sullivan, JD and CEO of The Institute for Health and Productivity Management , “Employee Health:  The New Investment in Human Capital”
  • Luncheon Closing Remarks:  Mary Maxwell, Humorist
  • Luncheon Host:  Malorie Maddox, News Anchor for WOWT
  • Symposium Closing Keynote Speaker:  Matt Davison, the Creating Captains Foundation

In addition to gaining valuable insights from these Pathways speakers, day-long tracks will be offered to worksite wellness professionals, healthcare providers, and human resources professionals. These tracks are designed to address the unique challenges faced by such persons in adopting and coordinating efforts to promote employee health.

Sessions are led by business leaders and healthcare representatives from both the local area and around the country so that attendees gain a variety of unique regional and national perspectives on health promotion. Continuing education credits will be offered to qualifying participants of these sessions.
