Omaha World-Herald: NMC Partnering with HONOReform To Lead Change

Published: Feb. 23, 2015

Matt Sobczyk hadn’t heard of the Fremont, Nebraska, hepatitis tragedy until he took a class last fall as a Nebraska Methodist College nursing student.

The medical scandal — 99 patients contracted hepatitis C because of the clinic’s unsanitary practices, and at least six died of the disease — stunned him, especially because the debacle was so close to his hometown of Omaha.

“I was in a little bit of shock, a little bit of disbelief,” said Sobczyk, 23. “It just kind of makes you wonder, did they truly have that compassion ... for the patients?”

Rick Ruggles explores the new relationship between Nebraska Methodist College and HONOReform and their goal of improved patient safety in this Omaha World-Herald story.
