Omaha World-Herald: Two Strains of Flu Hit Nebraska, Iowa

The 2014-15 flu season produced whopping numbers of cases in Nebraska, Iowa and elsewhere, and hit the elderly especially hard.

Two strains of flu infected people, one early in the season and the other late. The vaccine made for the 2014-15 season failed to present an outstanding defense, especially against the first strain, H3N2. As flu season dies out, infectious disease experts generally say the flu didn’t make most age groups severely ill.

Dr. Rudolf Kotula, infectious disease specialist with Methodist Physicians Clinic, was among those interviewed for this Rick Ruggles Omaha World-Herald article.
