Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Uggen, Joins Methodist Clinics
Published: April 26, 2017OMAHA - To say medicine is a part of his family would be an understatement. With a father and brother who are both orthopedic surgeons and his mom being a nurse, medicine was the perfect choice for Dr. Jon Uggen.
Dr. Uggen also has a great understanding for caregivers, as his oldest brother is mentally handicapped, and was a caregiver at a very early age.
“It’s great being at dinners with our family and having people stop by to share their appreciation for the care they had received from my father,” Dr. Uggen said. “I have always been very impressed with my dad and the medical career he has been able to have.”
Dr. Uggen comes to Omaha from Fremont, where he has been a part of the orthopedics and sports medicine team the past three years. Fremont was the first stop in his career after completing his fellowship at Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Alexandra, Va.
It was here he honed his skills in the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement, a surgical option he will offer to patients in Omaha.
“I love taking care of people,” he said. “When a patient comes in with extreme pain and can’t do things they want to do – we can help. We are able to diagnose, resolve their pain, restore their function and get them back to their activities of daily living.”
The University of Michigan grad, who did his internship and residency at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, learned many lessons from his dad. The most important – how to treat your patients.
“My dad taught me to treat every patient like family,” Dr. Uggen said. “If you do that, you will always give them 110 percent and always do the right thing during the decision making process. When patients see you give that effort – they appreciate that.”
Dr. Uggen is now seeing patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic HealthWest and Regency Clinic locations. Appointments can be made by calling 402-354-0707.
