Pulmonologist Dr. Jared Alberts joins Methodist Physicians Clinic

Jared Alberts, MD, knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine after seeing how much his father – a family medicine provider – was dedicated to his patients.

Dr. Alberts, a pulmonologist and critical care medicine provider for Methodist Physicians Clinic, experienced childhood asthma, so he’s able to relate to many of his patients.

“If you can’t breathe, that’s not a good feeling. I know that personally,” he said. “When you’re able to change the medications that patients are on or introduce them to a new medication – especially biologics – and see the change in their lives, it’s very impressive.”

He believes one of the most important parts of the patient-provider relationship is transparency. 

“I strive to take care of my patients how I would want to be taken care of,” Dr. Alberts said. “I always want to be transparent with patients, even if that involves difficult conversations.”

Dr. Alberts enjoys taking care of patients in clinic and hospital settings.

“Whether you’re a trauma patient or coming into the emergency department, the rule of thumb is A.B.C. – airway, breathing, circulation. The first two are my job,” he said. “Ultimately, breathing is one of the most important things. If you can’t breathe and you’re not able to do anything, that’s not a great quality of life. I really strive to help patients improve their breathing.”

During his free time, Dr. Alberts enjoys traveling with his wife, golfing, hunting, fishing and going to car shows.
