Published: Dec. 20, 2023Chad Reade, MD, an internal medicine physician and integral member of the Methodist Hospital physician leadership team, has been named vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer (VPMA/CMO) for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Reade began his career at Methodist Physicians Clinic (MPC) – the HealthWest location – in 2011. He’s held numerous leadership roles with MPC, including medical director of special projects and assistant director of clinical quality. His Methodist Hospital leadership experience includes serving on the medical executive committee for several years; since 2022 he has also been the medicine department chair. He has also served since 2011 as the attending physician for University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) internal medicine interns and residents.
“Dr. Reade is a people person,” said Josie Abboud, president and CEO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women’s Hospital. “He is thoughtful and smart, he listens to understand, and he’s compassionate and builds relationships. At Methodist, we’re all about our culture, and Dr. Reade will continue to build upon and enhance those relationships that define our culture, making us an even better organization to serve our patients and community.”
As a Regents scholar and graduate with high distinction from both the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and UNMC, Dr. Reade then completed residency and a chief resident year at UNMC. This experience fueled an interest in both healthcare quality and safety, as well as physician leadership.
“The Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Quadruple Aim for health care focuses on enhanced population health, outstanding patient experience, reduced cost of care and improved health care provider experience,” he said. “This is an appropriate guiding framework for every health care organization. As CMO, my goal will be to join with the engaged physician leaders and administration to tirelessly pursue those goals. In this context, specifically, that means being a great listener, highly collaborative, discerning, communicative and patient.”
In his new role, Dr. Reade will be instrumental in the development of Methodist Health System’s strategic plans. He will oversee the evaluation of new developments in medical innovation, assist in the recruitment and retention of excellent medical providers, and supervise the leadership and services of the medical staff.
“The outstanding culture of physician leadership at Methodist is an environment I’ve savored for the last 12 years as I have worked alongside countless talented, caring and engaged physicians and other health care team members,” Dr. Reade said. “Methodist Health System is committed to improving the health of our communities by the way we care, educate and innovate. I’m grateful for and proud of so many colleagues who tirelessly embody that mission statement. As CMO, it will be a privilege to serve our patients, hospitals and health system by supporting providers and physician leaders as they strive every day to make Methodist the best place to receive care and practice medicine.”
Dr. Reade will begin his new duties on Jan. 1.
