Dr. Katie Kim joins the Methodist Physicians Clinic Pediatrics team

Published: Sept. 6, 2024

Katie Kim, DO, was inspired at a young age by her father – a physician – to pursue a career in medicine. But it was her own “phenomenal” pediatrician who sparked her interest in caring for young people.

“It’s the long-term care that I get to provide my patients,” said Dr. Kim, who sees pediatric patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic. “It’s being able to see them grow. When they’re sick, it’s about seeing them bounce back and adapt to obstacles – whether it’s mental health concerns, a broken ankle or sore throat.”

She has particular interests in female adolescent and newborn care, and she’s a big advocate for get-to-know-you-visits – especially for first-time parents.

“It’s so important that I understand your needs and concerns so that I can address them,” she said. “It’s even more important that you feel comfortable in choosing me as a pediatrician.”

The most rewarding aspect of her job is having the opportunity to make an impact on patients and their families – something she discovered she was doing through an “aha moment” in medical school.

“I had a patient come see me with his Grandpa,” Dr. Kim said. “As we were assessing how well the boy was growing and the milestones he was meeting, Grandpa took out a little notebook, and it was so cute to see how excited he was while taking notes. I think it showed me that it wasn’t just the patient I was taking care of.”

In her free time, Dr. Kim enjoys hiking, skiing and traveling.
