Samantha Matson
Director of Facility Operations
Methodist Physicians Clinic
Tell us about yourself.
I am the director of Facility Operations for Methodist Physicians Clinic. My team ensures that our patients and staff can receive and provide care in a safe environment. We understand that for many patients in our health system, physicians’ clinics may be the first contact they have with our providers. My team works behind the scenes to support clinical staff in making that a positive experience.
I joined the health system in the fall of 2001 as a customer service operator in our 4111 call center. Since that time, I’ve had many opportunities to advance in my career. From the call center, I moved into Environmental Services at Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women’s Hospital. The experience from those roles set me up to move into the position of contract coordinator for Environmental Services. That really rounded out my understanding of who we are as Environmental Services and the impact we have on patient care. In 2022, I moved into the director role for Facility Operations. I learned very quickly how dedicated and hardworking all of our facility staff are.
I have been married to my husband, Don, for over three years. He is a wonderful stepfather to my three amazing children. Don and I enjoy hosting holidays and special occasions at our home with family and friends. Our favorite yearly event is vacationing at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. In 2025, we had the opportunity to visit the island with family to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.
What brought you to Methodist?
In 2001, I was looking for a part-time evening position, and I had a family member who worked at Methodist. She encouraged me to apply for the customer service position in the 4111 call center. At that time, I didn’t know much about the company other than that my aunt worked there and she seemed happy. Who knew that over 24 years later I would still be here?
What’s kept you here?
When I began working for Methodist, I had no intention of staying this long. It didn’t take me long, however, to realize that The Meaning of Care wasn’t just a tagline or something that was said. I was able to witness it firsthand.
For the first many years, I worked the phones. But the care, kindness and dedication from staff for our patients came through in each interaction. You could hear it in their voices.
I also had a supervisor who understood the struggles of a young mother and would give me grace when I needed it. He never complained if I needed him to come in and meet with me or cover a shift due to a sick child. He made me feel seen and valued as a person and not just a body in chair.
When my daughter was born, it never crossed my mind to not return to work. I enjoyed the people I worked with, I knew we made a difference, and I wanted to continue to be a part of the team.
Do you have any favorite Methodist memories?
The most memorable times I have had at Methodist, no matter who I am working with, are the opportunities to connect with co-workers and staff. Sharing a meal, celebrating a birthday or simply listening to them tell their stories are experiences I treasure.
What should people know about Methodist?
When I talk about Methodist out in the community, I always start off my saying we are all on the same team. We all work together to provide the best care for our patients. The Meaning of Care is in all that we do.
