Published: May 19, 2026
Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health celebrated its official ribbon cutting on May 19. Scheduled to begin serving patients in June, this new state-of-the-art, 96-bed behavioral health hospital will expand access to high-quality, compassionate mental healthcare across western Iowa and eastern Nebraska.
Located at 3620 S. 24th St. in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the hospital is a joint venture between Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital and Acadia Healthcare that builds on a shared commitment to meeting the growing behavioral health needs of communities across the region.
“We are approaching an important milestone for western Iowa and eastern Nebraska,” said Dave Burd, president and CEO of Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. “With the opening of Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health, we are significantly changing the healthcare landscape for behavioral health services. The need for these services in our communities is critical, and we are incredibly proud of the impact this will have on so many lives in the region.”
The new hospital provides a comprehensive continuum of behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults and older adults, including acute inpatient care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs and electroconvulsive therapy. Its thoughtfully designed environment – including tranquil outdoor spaces and a gym – balances privacy and connection while fostering overall well-being and maintaining dignity. Multidisciplinary care teams – including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, social workers and other specialists – work collaboratively to illuminate paths toward healing for individuals experiencing acute mental health and substance use disorders.
“This hospital expands access to high-quality behavioral healthcare for individuals across the region, representing what’s possible when strong partners come together to deliver evidence-based treatment that inspires hope, improves lives and elevates communities,” said Debbie Osteen, CEO of Acadia Healthcare.
