Certified Lactation Consultant

Tell us about yourself.

I’ve been a nurse for 30 years, with most of my career in maternal-child health, pediatrics and mother-baby nursing, including 13 years in the NICU. I became a certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) in 2008, and I’ve always found it incredibly meaningful to support families during those early, often overwhelming moments with a new baby. I joined Methodist in 2016, and I’m so grateful to work alongside such a dedicated and compassionate team.

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 30 years, and thanks to his 24-year career in the Air Force, we’ve had the chance to live all across the country (nine moves!) and meet so many wonderful people along the way. We have three children who keep us very proud and very busy. Nate, 24, is serving in the Navy in California, Hailey, 20, is attending St. Olaf College in Minnesota and Marley, 18, will graduate high school this May and head to Creighton this fall to start nursing school.

What brought you to Methodist?

I was drawn to Methodist because of its strong reputation for patient-centered care and the sense that people here truly take pride in what they do. It was clear that this is a place where both clinical excellence and compassion really matter.

What’s kept you here?

What has kept me here is the people. I have the privilege of working alongside colleagues who are not only incredibly skilled but also consistently show up with kindness, teamwork and a genuine commitment to our patients and each other. That kind of environment makes a difference every day.

And on a lighter note, my husband would definitely say Methodist has great T-shirts – he wears them all the time, which I think says something about how proud we both are to be connected to this place.

Do you have any favorite Methodist memories?

One of my favorite Methodist memories has been facilitating the Lactation Support Group for new mothers. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch moms grow in confidence as they navigate those early days of motherhood and to help create a space where they can connect, support one another and build lasting relationships. Being part of that journey is very special.

What should people know about Methodist?

I’ve been very fortunate to be surrounded by supportive colleagues throughout my time here. While it’s hard to single out just one person, I’m grateful every day for the teamwork, encouragement and shared knowledge that my co-workers bring as it makes a meaningful difference both for me and for the families we care for.

The mission to provide compassionate care is evident when you see how people show up for patients and for each other, which makes this more than just a place to work.
