OMAHA  - Patient involvement during the health care decision making process is key for Dr. Darrick Peters, the new OB/GYN physician at Methodist Physicians Clinic Women’s Center.

Dr. Peters just completed his residency training at the Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He has spent the past year as the administrative chief resident, while also serving on the patient safety and quality committee.

During his residency, Dr. Peters earned the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Award for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology in recognition for his surgical skills, was named the Outstanding Chief Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology, received the Resident Leadership Award and was honored as Best Teacher of Medical Students multiple years.

“While I was on my rotations during medical school I had a natural draw to OB/GYN,” Dr. Peters said. “I really enjoy developing and building relationships that are more long term with patients. I also like the opportunity to provide a variety of surgical procedures, when necessary. The ability to help a woman through her pregnancy and then help bring life into the world is just incredible.”

Dr. Peters completed international humanitarian assistance when he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

His medical school training was completed at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Among his honors was serving as vice president of the American Medical Student Association for the College of Osteopathic Medicine chapter.
