Alex Nguyen, MS, PLMHP, considers himself a people person and loves building relationships with his clients through the Methodist Hospital Community Counseling Program.

“The most important part of the therapeutic relationship is the rapport,” Nguyen said. “Having that rapport helps our clients feel cared about, and in return, they’re more willing and open to discuss their problems. If you can’t build rapport, therapy will go nowhere.”

He added: “I’m a loving and caring person. However, I’m also one who will call out a client on something. I’ll help them through the entire process and push them if need be.”

Nguyen especially enjoys working with children and adolescents, who he believes “are the future leaders of this country and will one day make an impact.”

No matter his client’s age, Nguyen wantsThe Meaning of Care to resonate with them beyond their time with him.

“Caring for someone doesn’t stop because they aren’t in front of you. It stops when they’ve reached their goal of healing,” he said.

Outside of work, Nguyen likes being outdoors, fishing, playing sports and spending time with family and friends.
