Methodist Hospital’s referral-based Driver Rehabilitation Program is certified by the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. Our specially trained physical and occupational therapists are members of The Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) and are experienced in identifying how health or aging impacts your ability to drive.
Driver rehabilitation may be especially beneficial for those struggling with:
- ADD/ADHD
- Aging
- Anxiety
- Arthritis
- Cardiovascular disease
- Cognitive impairment
- Developmental disorders
- Limb amputation
- Other physical or orthopedic impairment
- Stroke or other neurological conditions
- Vision impairment
Our comprehensive program includes:
- Clinical Evaluation
Before you sit behind the wheel, we’ll assess your physical, cognitive, perceptual and visual abilities. - Behind-the-Wheel Evaluation
Your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle will be assessed in a variety of traffic settings. If needed, adaptive equipment is available. - Recommendations
Recommendations will be made the day of the evaluation. When a safe return to driving isn’t possible, our staff members help you identify community transportation options and other resources. - Training
If hand controls or other adaptive devices are recommended, further training will be necessary before equipment is installed in your personal vehicle by a third-party vendor.
New drivers or individuals who need more practice will benefit from additional one-on-one training sessions with a driver rehabilitation specialist.
This program is available on a self-pay basis. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances typically do not cover driver rehabilitation services.
