When her own children began to experience challenges, Jennifer Omer, PLMHP, decided to pursue a career in behavioral health to help them and others.

Now a mental health practitioner with the Methodist Community Counseling Program, she works with clients of all ages but particularly enjoys her time with youths and young adults. She embraces a person-centered, strengths-based approach to counseling and has a special place in her heart for discussing grief, bereavement, self-worth, self-discovery, spiritual and existential issues, and family and social relationships.

“I love being able to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental and safe space for people to share their stories, their hopes and their fears,” she said.

Omer believes in building rapport and trust with her clients, and she knows that positive change can take time.

“I want them to know that I truly believe in their strengths and abilities to overcome their challenges,” she said. “I’ll walk with them until they can do it on their own. When I see those moments when a client gets a great sense of their worth, it’s a moment of hope that feels like a gift to observe.”

Outside of work, Omer loves spending time with her family, especially watching movies, hiking, camping, running, cooking and sharing good food.
