Behavioral Health Therapist II

Jordan Birkland, LIMHP, experienced mental health issues during and after high school. Through learning how to cope with his own struggles, he developed a desire to help others.

As a therapist with the Methodist Community Counseling Program, Birkland has a particular interest in working with adult males and high schoolers struggling with emotional dysregulation or major depressive disorder. He often uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and person-centered and humanistic strategies.

He enjoys helping others discover their strengths and listening to people talk about their passions.

Birkland believes the most important part of the provider-client relationship is empathy.

“It’s important to take the time to truly understand the experience your client is sharing with you,” he said.

Birkland wants clients to know that he strives to create a safe space for them to express any feelings they’re experiencing.

“The Meaning of Care means finding ways to meet the client where they’re at and working together to find the most helpful – and human – way to connect and heal,” he said.

When he’s not working, Birkland enjoys spending time with family, PC gaming with friends and learning new things. He takes pride in knowing a little about a lot of things and is always open to learning more.
